Repeat Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

Try the NHS App www.nhs.uk/nhsapp

You can now use the NHS App, a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services and your GP account on your smartphone or tablet.

You can use the NHS App to check your symptoms and get instant advice, book appointments, order repeat prescriptions, view your GP medical record and more.

For more information go to www.nhs.uk/nhsapp

You can also bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday, from 8.00am to 6.30pm

We do not accept repeat prescription requests over the phone

Your request will be actioned by the Practice within 48 hours and sent to your nominated Pharmacy electronically. We suggest that you allow 5 working days for your request to be fully processed through all of the channels that it must go through.

Electronic repeat prescribing (eRD)

If you get regular or repeat prescriptions, you could save time by switching to electronic Repeat Dispensing (eRD).

eRD sends your prescriptions electronically from your GP surgery to a pharmacy of your choice. It’s easy to use and you don't need a computer or electronic device. Ask your GP or pharmacist to set it up for you.

eRD allows your GP to prescribe your regular medicines for up to a year. It’s reliable, secure and confidential. Your regular prescriptions are stored securely on the NHS database, so they'll be ready at the pharmacy each time you need them.

Using eRD you can:

  • save time by avoiding unnecessary trips or calls to your GP every time you need to order a repeat prescription
  • pick up your repeat prescriptions directly from your pharmacy without having to visit your GP
  • spend less time waiting for your prescription in the pharmacy or GP practice
  • save paper – you won’t need a paper prescription to collect your medicine from the pharmacy For more information about eRD and how it works, ask at your GP surgery or pharmacy, or visit the NHS website: More information on eRD here

Nominating a pharmacy

You will need to choose a pharmacy to collect your prescription from. We call this nominating a pharmacy.

You can change your nominated pharmacy at any time:

Online, on the app or website where you order repeat prescriptions

At your GP practice

At any pharmacy that accepts repeat prescriptions

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine or your prescription please contact the surgery.

Your local pharmacists can also answer any questions about your prescription. They can answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

Prescriptions Charges and Exemptions

Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs).

The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.

HRT Prescription Prepayment Certificate Information

NHS Charges

These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.

Details of the current charges

If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 14 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a pre payment certificate.

  • The quickest way to order a PPC is online - Buy or Renew a PPC Online
  • If you need help buying a PPC, call us on 0300 330 1341
